Safety Instrumented System HIPPS

HIPPS is an abbreviation of “High Integrity Pressure Protection System”. HIPPS systems are applied to prevent
Over-pressurisation of a plant by shutting-off the source of the high pressure. In traditional systems over-pressure is dealt with through relief systems. Relief systems have obvious disadvantages such as release of (flammable and toxic) process fluids in the environment and often a large footprint of the installation. With the increasing environmental awareness relief systems are no longer an acceptable solution.

Axial Control Valve

Streamlined flow path design for demanding applications

Axial flow refers to the streamlined symmetrical and unrestricted flow path between the valve inner and outer body. Mokveld acknowledged the unique advantages and adopted the concept into their control valves designs. Over the last decades Mokveld axial control valve has captured a strong position across the full range of gas and oil segments; production, processing, transmission, storage and distribution. The design has also proven to be the preferred solution for special water applications.

The choke valve that offers more reliability through controlled erosion
  • Mokveld chokes are equipped with a cage provided with holes uniformly distributed over the full circumference. This design ensures that the fluid is symmetrically distributed.
Low noise through low pressure recovery
  • The pressure recovery factor of Mokveld chokes is low as a result of the cage concept. This causes noise levels in gas applications to be low. Additionally, in oil production applications flashing and flowing velocities in the downstream piping are reduced.
Complete piston guidance
  • The piston is guided over the complete length of the stroke. All sealing areas and guiding surfaces are away from the throttling area.
Pressure balancing
  • The downstream pressure which acts on the piston surface is also applied to the top of the piston. This results in low operating torques.
High rangeability
  • Another benefit of the cage concept is its very high rangeability. Well start-up can be performed at low flow rates.
Safety and weight reduction through a one piece bodyThe bodies of Mokveld chokes are made of one piece castings or forgings. This eliminates the potential leakage path of split-body designs, and saves weight and space.

Axial Check Valve
Fast acting non-slam protection for critical applications

Mokveld check valves are sophisticated devices carefully designed and sized to meet these new demands. They are recognized as the standard for all critical applications such as protection of rotating equipment and systems where low pressure losses are essential. Fluids handled, range from heavy crude oil to light hydrocarbon fractions, from multiphase fluids to sandloaded natural gas and from potable water to highly corrosive and contaminated produced water.
Mokveld have supplied check valves to the world’s largest water and crude oil pipelines, natural gas transmission systems, gas storage facilities, LNG and olefin process plants. Mokveld check valves are used by all the major oil and gas companies, chemical industries and water transmission companies.

Axial Surge Relief Valve

Fast acting non-slam protection for critical applicationsThe Mokveld surge relief valve is engineered to quickly measure unabated surge pressures, then to open fast to relief and close, without slamming, into seating. The operation of the surge relief valve is simple, since only the liquid pressure is used to open and close the valve. The pressure of the liquid is directly connected to the right chamber as well as ported via the pilot to the left chamber of the internal cylinder of the valve.High available capacity
  • Because of the high effective valve capacity, a result of the linear response of the pilot valve, sizes are smaller compared to those of competitors. Extreme oversizing is not required.
Quick response time
  • The proportional pilot design is of a high capacity, allowing fast response of the surge relief valve.
Low tolerance of set pressure
  • As a result of the pilot design the overpressure can be limited to 1% of the set pressure.
No external energy; no nitrogen consumption
  • The use of the pilot type design eliminates the nitrogen back-up including temperature compensation devices.
Simple installation layout
  • Because of the absence of a nitrogen system, the main reason for skid mounting is eliminated. high performance
Pilot and surge valve design are based on simplicity. All components are field proven to provide maximum reliability to protect your system.
Stable operation
  • Because of the cage trim, the opening behaviour remains stable and predictable at each differential pressure.
Anti-cavitation trims available
  • Optional trim types are available eliminating cavitation and vibration to downstream piping
